Intelligent Nutrients (IN) is one of the most appealing brands I have come across in some time. First, there is their motto, “Everything we put in and our bodies must be nutritious and safe.” This is so sensible, and yet for the beauty industry, still somewhat radical. IN was founded by the the father of safe cosmetics, the late, great Horst Rechelbacher of AVEDA fame and is continued by his daughter Nicole Thomas Rechelbacher, who had worked with him since the age of 18, as well as hi wife and business partner Kiran Stordalen, who was with him for three decades. Intelligent Nutrients investes time and money to have its products certified by third parties, and they continuously push for the best performance with the least possible toxic impact. IN is vegan, cruelty-free, plant-based, and uses sustainable practices (including packaging), and is made in the USA. If that is not enough, the Intelligent Nutrients Team is also actively involved in programs at the Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota, where they have even funded a facility, the Kiran Stordalen and Horst Rechelbacher Pediatric Pain, Palliative and Integrative Medicine Clinic, focused on relieving stress and pain in pediatric care. Even without considering Intelligent Nutrients’ products (which are, by the way, amazing), a person can feel good about purchasing from them. I had the wonderful opportunity to try four IN products.
Let me just say that I love this serum. I could not have formulated—or even requested– a better retinoid-alternative serum. First, Intelligent Nutrients explicitly acknowledges the exact concerns I have about chemical retinoids: that, despite touted benefits, retinoids may actually age some of us in the long run by chronically irritating and drying the skin. Intelligent Nutrients found a way to deliver the benefits without the drawbacks by using Plant Retinol Science: a synergistic blend of two proven actives. The first is bidens pilosa (Spanish needle), an ingredient that delivers retinoid-like results without stimulating proinflammation—and instead it decreases inflammation. Something that can give me the retinoid-like benefits while actually minimizing inflammation rather than causing it? Yes please. Bidens pilosa is proven to reduce wrinkles by 28% and improve skin firmness by 25% in 4 weeks and to smooth texture by 35% in 6 weeks. The second plant retinol is Sea Fennel, which improves skin uniformity by up to 47% in 4 weeks. The result of this potent combination of sea bioactives is a synergistic formula that smooths, brightens, and plumps skin—all without any irritation. I am always looking for effective ways to target stubborn expression lines, and I am happy to say that I found one with this serum.
